I couldn't resist but to extrapolate the above lessons to life (plus me being a chess illeterate, can only make philosophical extrapolations :D) - need an opportunity (regardless of creating one for oneself, or being provided for) of winning to stay interested, need a strong opposition + winning/loosing to continue to stay interested (and perfect the art) and need to lose at times to teach inorder to prepare a better candidate.
